The Last American - A Fragment From The Journal Of Khan-Li, Prince Of Dimph-Yoo-Chur And Admiral In The Persian Navy ReviewThe following refers to the 1892 edition:I found a copy of this while antiquing in Kentucky. It is a rare gem of a book, "written" in the year 2951 long after the destruction of the race known as "mehrikans" and ensuing dark ages which resulted in the loss of much of the technology enjoyed during the 19th Century. In this story a Persian crew accidentally finds the site of New York and begins exploring.
While the names of its characters are rather tongue-in-cheek and it sports a rather unbecoming attitude towards Catholicism the book has some humorous insights into what must have been very real concerns for Americans of the late 1800s. It is also funny to read of how these amateur archeologists misinterpreted their findings in America.
