Listening To Ghosts ReviewI read Bob's "Listening to Ghosts' autobiography and it's a page-turner. I could hardly put it down over a couple of days. Having lived a similar life, as a former Marine Staff-sergeant, I can say his book tells how it was to be a serviceman in the 50s-70s, before the military became overrun by a buncha lefty politically correct kumbaya sissy-boys.
There are "sea-stories", "fairy tales", and reality. Bob's book tells the reality from which all great sea-stories originate. While in the Marines, I met many of the beer-drinking, whisky-swilling, hell-raising sailors Bob recounts in this great book. One of my great friends at Millington Naval Air Station in the late 60s was a Petty Officer First Class who routinely drank me under the table! Like any good sailor, he would take his shipmate (me) over his shoulder and put me out of harm's way.
