United States Navy Diving Manual, Rev. 4 ReviewI've had an old hard copy of the USN Diving Manual on my shelves for years, the 5 volumes and the little handbook. They sit alongside DCIEM Manuals and NOAA manuals. I am National Coordinator of a Natinal Diving Body and these are great reference books.They only come out about 2 or 3 times a year when I'm asked a particularly tricky question about diving and what the rest of the world does about "this or that". I always end up with a quote like:
"The US Navy says this, DCIEM says that, however NOAA says something else.".
Now it was always a pain to find what i wanted in any of these manuals, and this CD-ROM has solved all that. Simple Ctrl-F and go find little PC, I love it. I now use the reference a lot more as it's a breeze (and I don;t have to spend time dusting off the big books and sneezing for 1/2 hr).
Any technical divers out there know, this is one piece of reference material that is invaluable. The USN have done more diving than almost anyone else at depth and the sharp end (you've got to think that the Brits and French have done some whacked diving too...) and this reference puts all that experience into a written work for us all to read.
Some of it is even scannable and readable if you're into deep diving, mixed gases and accident response (the main reason I got it in the first place was for accident management protocol). Also at only US$20 or thereabouts, beats the old US$200 version!
