A Sailors Story ReviewI consider myself a student of World War II and military history in general. The majority of books that cover World War II gloss over or completely omit the struggles faced by a country desperately trying to throw off the yoke of colonial rule and patch together a navy able to defend itself all during the most turbulent time of the 20th century. The book follows the life of a seemingly simple man who quickly advances through the ranks of the fledgling military as he continually meets some of the most influential figures of that time period. The wording is eloquent and reminiscent of the rich vocabulary that was once considered common-place and is now an almost lost art in these days. I laughed out loud when he gets stuck crawling through a small cave on his belly below the oracle of Delphi and my eyes welled up over the utter sadness of Gandhi's pointless murder. I wholeheartedly recommend this book not just as a tome of India's struggle for freedom but also for the lifetime of achievements from one of the countries greatest military leaders as experienced through the eyes of a gentle soul.A Sailors Story Overview
