Deep Dive ReviewWe all know it is hard to find the time to read a book with a busy schedule. When you do finally read one, you definitely want it to be worth the time. Well, Deep Dive by Rand Newman is certainly a book that was worth every minute. The pacing of the book was quick which coupled nicely with the plot's progression. You felt like you were in the middle of the terrorist versus counter-terrorist timer. I highly recommend this to anyone whether you are time-crunched or not. The novel is expertly and well written--I couldn't put it down once I started reading!!Deep Dive Overview"Deep Dive" is a suspense thriller involving Muslim terrorists who plot to sabotage an American nuclear submarine. A Navy SEAL and an FBI agent try to stop them, in an international quest that spans continents and cultures.Mahmoud and Najeri Aziz are orphaned as teenagers during the 2003 battle between American soldiers and Iraqi insurgents in Samarra, part of the infamous Sunni Triangle. They immigrate to Brooklyn, under the sponsorship of an Army colonel, and are adopted by a Muslim family.Mahmoud struggles to assimilate and comes under the influence of Rasheed Hatton-El, who teaches “Americana" at Masjid al Salyma, a controversial mosque. The sessions are actually a recruiting front for al-Jahal, a rising terrorist organization.Najeri adjusts to American life while staying true to her Muslim faith. On a chance encounter, she meets Gordon Aiken, a nuclear power officer in the Navy. After Najeri converts Gordon to Islam, they marry and have two daughters. He is the Chief Engineer on the U.S.S. Seattle, a fast attack submarine based in San Diego.Mahmoud and Hatton-El devise a daring plot to sabotage the Seattle. Their activities stir the attention of Irene Reynolds, a top FBI agent, but after a gun fight and car chase through Brooklyn streets, Mahmoud escapes. He makes his way to San Diego, where he joins other members of his al-Jahal cell.The terrorists contact Gordon and threaten to kill his entire family unless he plants a bomb on the Seattle's nuclear reactor. He is warned not to tell anyone else, but happens on a meeting with Todd Lewis, a friend and SEAL. The two men team with Irene in an attempt to track and trap the terrorists. The trail takes them from San Diego to New York, London, and Alexandria. Along the way, they encounter danger, intrigue, romance, dirty money, and a rogue double agent. .
