Grumman Navy F-111B Swing Wing (Naval fighters No. 41) ReviewThis Naval Fighters volume is typical of the series in most respects. It is an 80 page, 8-1/2" x 11", stapled card cover. Color is restricted to the front and rear covers. Like other Naval Fighters volumes there is very complete photographic coverage of the F-111B, supplemented by a lot of drawings from contemporary technical manuals. Coverage of plastic model kits through the publication date (1998) is also thorough; six pages were devoted to this.
The text makes this volume stand out from the pack. It is a detailed description of the development, design, construction, and testing of the F-111B with attention paid to the historical context. The F-111 in general and the F-111B in particular were highly controversial and author Thomason gives every impression of being fair and objective in his assessments.
